It will test a leading theory on how the universe operates at a subatomic level, and it could lead to advancements in medicine, materials science and national security.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>\u201c<em>This laser will have the highest peak power in the United States and will be among the world\u2019s most powerful laser systems for the next decade<\/em>,\u201d said Karl Krushelnick, director of the G\u00e9rard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science at the University of Michigan, where the laser will be built. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span>For this project, we will collaborate with the Michigan team on multiple levels.
