Amplitude Selected to Participate in the Construction of the Most Powerful laser in the U.S.
Amplitude Laser has been selected to participate in the construction of the most powerful laser in the United Sates: the Zettawatt-Equivalent Ultrashort pulse laser System (ZEUS).
Funded with $16 million from the National Science Foundation, the ZEUS facility will enable both basic and applied research. It will test a leading theory on how the universe operates at a subatomic level, and it could lead to advancements in medicine, materials science and national security.
“This laser will have the highest peak power in the United States and will be among the world’s most powerful laser systems for the next decade,” said Karl Krushelnick, director of the Gérard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science at the University of Michigan, where the laser will be built.
For this project, we will collaborate with the Michigan team on multiple levels. We will supply the full Ti:Sa frontend of the future 3 Petawatt system as well as other key components, we’ll provide technical expertise on Petawatt laser technologies and finally, Amplitude will supply a unique ns Intrepid 75J laser for shock experiments in the same facility.
